Certifications are a universal sign to all of us that the person who is credentialed has made the extra effort to ensure that his or her skills are up to par. As consumers, we feel an extra measure of assurance when we do business with a certified professional, whether it's a doctor, accountant or plumber.
Photography is no different. The ability to claim the designation of Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) certainly benefits you, but the education process photographers participate in to become certified also improves the industry and raises standards of excellence across the board.
PPA believes in the educational process and the importance of achieving this designation, and we're offering a three-day Certification Preparation Class in August for all interested photographers who wish to better their skills and become a Certified Professional Photographer.
CPP Certification Preparation Class in August
This three-day intensive class will delve into the technical topics covered in the CPP Certification Exam, explore the Image Submission Review...and give you a more thorough working knowledge of photography.
Award-winning photographer Gary Meek, M.Photog.Cr., API, CPP, EA-ASP, will be lending his knowledge as the certification prep instructor. Gary owns and operates his own studio in Hot Springs, AR, with his wife, Kathy. He participates in state, regional and national photographic associations and is a past member of PPA's board of directors, as well as a past president of Professional Photographers of the Ozarks. A strong supporter of the CPP Certification Program offered through the Professional Photographic Certification Commission, Gary has taught similar CPP Certification Preparation classes at Imaging USA and at PPA Affiliate Schools.
The Certification Preparation Class will be held at the PPA offices in Atlanta, August 22-24, 2010, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (Fees are $299 for the three-day workshop.) CPP candidates who wish to take the CPP Certification Exam on August 24, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., will be offered the opportunity.
Other Certification Education Opportunities--Certify with
PPA board member Sandy Puc, M.Photog.Cr., API, CPP, has been touring the country for the last few months...and all along the way, she's been promoting Certify with Sandy Puc', a free motivational and support program she has developed to encourage other photographers to complete the certification process.
Sandy's goal is to see 1,000 photographers receive certification by Imaging USA 2011. Her brainchild, Certify with Sandy Puc' (CWSP), is free and offers photographers an opportunity to participate in the CWSP forum with webinars, downloads, study groups, training and classes to prepare photographers for the certification exam.
So take advantages of these resources and make this the year you get certified--it's the crazy smart thing to do.
